Ranchi, June 16 (IANS). In a major healthcare operation under Operation Drishti, a specialized ophthalmological team from the Indian Army and Indian Air Force has launched a Mega Advanced Surgical Eye Camp at Military Hospital Namkum, Ranchi.
The camp is running from June 15-19 and aims to restore the vision of over 200 beneficiaries and improve their quality of life through free advanced eye surgeries.
The surgical team led by Brigadier Dr. Sanjay Kumar Mishra, Consultant and Head of Ophthalmology Department, Army Hospital (Research & Referral), New Delhi, will perform a number of advanced ophthalmic procedures including cataract by phacoemulsification, Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) and anti-VEGF intravitreal injections for vitreo-retinal diseases.
Extensive screening for ex-servicemen, dependents of servicemen and underprivileged civilians is underway and a large turnout is expected during the camp. In support of the mission, world-class medical equipment has been airlifted to Ranchi by Indian Air Force service aircraft, enabling specialized surgical care to be provided in the region.
Director General Armed Forces Medical Services Vice Admiral Aarti Sarin highlighted the importance of the humanitarian mission. He said this mission is a testament to the dual identity of the Army, both as a loyal protector of the country’s borders and a compassionate builder of social resilience.
Operation Drishti is a flagship outreach program that combines advanced ophthalmic expertise with humanitarian service. Prior to Ranchi, the initiative has successfully conducted eight advanced surgical eye camps across the country, including Leh-Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Bhuj, Kutch and Bagdogra, bringing specialized eye care to remote and under-served areas.
