New Delhi, 9 September (IANS). Everything from outside looks right – good career, smiling photos on social platforms, and a lot of achievements. But there is something inside that it feels like a broken. Many people are so mentally and physically so tired that their veins are answering. In modern language, it is called ‘burnout’, then our ancient medical system Ayurveda ‘Pragyaparadha’ means the crime of intellect.
There is an important concept in Ayurveda- Pragyaparadha. This happens when we deliberately do what is harmful to our body, mind and soul. We know that waking up late at night is not right for our health, yet we keep spending time on the screen. We are tired, but throw ourselves more work. Our mind wants rest, but we keep running after the expectations and achievements of the outside world. This is the modern modern pride- knowledge is, but there is no time to listen to Vivek.
There is a clear description of this in Charaka Samhita, which is “Smriti intelligence Indriyanam Sanyogo Ya Sah Sam. (Charak Samhita, Retirement, Chapter 1)
Meaning when memory, intelligence and senses are inconsistent use, it gives rise to diseases. This is the reason that in Ayurveda, Pragyaparadha has been described as the root cause of the disease.
According to a 2022 report by Stanford University, ‘burnout’ is more among those who ignore their inner voice in an attempt to look perfect from outside.
Neuroscience also states that when we constantly ignore the signs of the body- like hunger, sleep, tiredness- then the part of the brain that has the ability to decide becomes weak. As a result, stress, irritability and emotional imbalance are born. That is, modern science also says what Ayurveda has been saying for thousands of decades. In simple words, do not break your inner rhythm.
