New Delhi, 17 September (IANS). Health experts said on Wednesday that the changing weather conditions are increasing the cases of Influenza A Strain H3N2 in Delhi-NCR.
The H3N2 is a seasonal flu that spreads into humans and mutes over time.
Children, elderly and pregnant women are the most sensitive to this disease. It can take more severe forms in people with weak immune systems and patients with asthma, COPD, heart disease or diabetes.
In addition to the AIIMS’s internal medical department, Professor Animesh Ray told IANS, “H3N2 cases of influenza are increasing. Its major symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, and muscle pain.”
The expert said that this condition is usually light, but it can be serious in people suffering from other diseases.
Ray said, “Although most cases are mild, people with previous comorbidity (having more than one disease at the same time) who have kidney problems, diabetes, heart disease, or lung diseases may have to deal with pneumonia or lung failure.”
According to a survey conducted by the Social Community Platform Localskils on more than 11,000 houses, at least one member in 69 percent of the houses has been said to show symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat and breathing.
Dr. Atul Gogia, Senior Advisory Medical in a major hospital in the city, told IANS, “These cases are increasing due to change in weather and lack of vaccination.”
He further said, “Its symptoms are similar to seasonal flu. Apart from cough, cold and nose, they can affect the lungs, which can lead to pneumonia later.”
In children, its symptoms may include nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. Many patients informed about the cough remaining for 5-7 days and other symptoms.
Experts recommended appropriate hand washing, masks and vaccination to prevent H3N2. He also suggested the annual vaccination and avoiding contact with the victims.
