New Delhi, January 15 (IANS). There are many such herbs in Ayurveda, which have been supporting people’s health for centuries. One of these is Chitrak. Simple in appearance but extremely powerful in properties, this medicine is especially known for its root. In ancient times, when there were no modern medicines, the use of Chitrak was common for stomach disorders, joint pain and many internal diseases. Even today its importance remains the same in Ayurveda.
First of all, if we talk about digestion, Chitrak can be called a true friend of the stomach. Chitrak is considered very useful for those people who have less appetite, do not digest food properly, have gas formation or complain of frequent flatulence. It intensifies the digestive fire, due to which food is digested quickly and properly. According to Ayurveda, when digestion is correct, half the diseases go away automatically.
Another specialty of Chitrak is its anthelmintic properties. Stomach worms are a common problem for children as well as adults. Use of Chitrak in limited and correct quantity helps in eliminating stomach worms. This is the reason why old physicians considered it an important medicine for intestinal problems.
Now if we talk about joints and bones, Chitrak is not behind here either. It helps in balancing Vata and Kapha dosha. The use of Chitrak is considered beneficial in problems like arthritis, joint pain, swelling, back pain or stiffness in the body. At many places, its paste is made and applied on the painful area, which provides relief. Especially in cold weather, when joint pain increases, Chitrak can prove useful.
Chitrak’s name is also used in skin related problems. Its antibacterial properties are useful in ringworm, itching, boils or chronic skin diseases. Ayurveda believes that skin diseases are often linked to poor blood and digestion, and Chitrak has an impact on both. This is the reason why it is also included in blood purifying medicines.
Chitrak is also considered beneficial in respiratory system i.e. breathing problems. It helps in thinning the phlegm and expelling it, which can provide relief in problems like chronic cough, cold and asthma.
However, as effective as Chitrak is, it also demands caution. Its nature is very hot, so excessive quantity can cause harm. Pregnant women, small children and people suffering from stomach ulcers should not consume it. Chitrak should always be used only after consulting an Ayurvedic doctor.
