Dhaka, November 4 (IANS). Dengue continues to wreak havoc in Bangladesh. Four more deaths were recorded on Tuesday, with this the death toll crossed the 290 mark and reached 292. Local media reports gave this information.

Along with the dead, the number of victims is also increasing rapidly. The number of patients is increasing in the capital Dhaka.

During the same period, 1,101 more people were admitted to hospital due to viral fever. The total number of infected cases will increase to 73,923 in 2025, United News of Bangladesh (UNB) has given this information quoting the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

According to the DGHS, the new cases were reported in Dhaka North City Corporation (241), Dhaka Division (208), Dhaka South City Corporation (175), Barishal (151), Chattogram Division (125), Mymensingh Division (75), Khulna Division (59), Rajshahi Division (45), Rangpur Division (19) and Sylhet Division (3).

According to Dhaka Times, 575 people died due to dengue in 2024, while 1,705 people lost their lives due to dengue in 2023, that is, the death toll in 2023 was the highest.

On September 16, the DGHS had also issued new instructions for government hospitals to ensure foolproof treatment of dengue patients. DGHS Director (Hospitals and Clinics) Abu Hussain Mohammad Mainul Ahsan issued the directive. According to the guidelines, all hospitals in Bangladesh will have to create wards for dengue treatment and form a specific medical team.

Bangladesh’s leading daily Dhaka Tribune reported that hospitals were asked to ensure facilities for NS-1 tests, emergency care and adequate medicines for patients.

The directive asked to form a board of experts (doctors) from medicine, pediatrics and other diseases to treat dengue and chikungunya patients.

According to the instructions, this board and doctors will also be responsible for the treatment of patients coming to the OPD of hospitals.

It also ordered hospital directors to send letters to city corporations or municipalities to conduct mosquito killing and cleanliness drives around the hospital premises.
