Drinking very hot tea can be costly, scientists said there is a risk of cancer

New Delhi, October 17 (IANS). In India, tea is not just a drink but an emotion. Whether it is to say goodbye to morning sleep or to get rid of fatigue, most people resort to tea. In many homes, the beginning of the day is considered incomplete without tea. But if this favorite tea is consumed very hot, it can cause serious harm to your body.

It has been proven in many scientific researches that drinking excessively hot tea can increase the risk of cancer in the esophagus. When we repeatedly swallow very hot things, such as tea with a temperature of 65 degrees Celsius or more, it damages the soft lining of the esophagus. Due to repeated burning of this layer, swelling occurs there. Along with inflammation, changes in cells begin, which can gradually turn into cancer. In the language of science, this is called chronic inflammation and cell mutation.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has also confirmed that regular consumption of foods hotter than 65 degrees Celsius increases the risk of esophageal cancer. In such a situation, the question arises that which cancer is this and what are its symptoms? Actually, there are two main types of cancer of the food pipe, the first is esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and the second is esophageal adenocarcinoma. The first occurs mostly in the upper part of the pipe and its main cause is considered to be consumption of hot drinks or tobacco. The second type occurs in the lower part of the pipe, which is mostly caused by obesity and long-term acidity.

Tea in itself does no harm. The real problem is that it gets too hot. Tea, coffee, or soup pose a risk if they are too hot and are swallowed directly. Ayurveda also believes that food or drink should neither be too hot nor too cold. According to Ayurveda, ‘Ushna’ i.e. hot drinks can help digestion, but if it is excessively hot, it can increase Pitta, which causes inflammation in the body and becomes the root of many diseases.

If someone is having trouble eating, has a persistent sore throat or is experiencing pain while swallowing, and is also losing weight rapidly without any reason, then these signs can be serious. In such a situation, a doctor should be contacted immediately. Many times we ignore these symptoms considering them minor, which can prove costly in the future.
