New Delhi, 26 September (IANS). Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda said on Friday that Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has emerged as a leading institute in the field of food security and standards.
Speaking at the third global food regulatory summit held in Bharat Mandapam in the national capital, Nadda said that the summit would showcase India’s commitment to global food security and increase global cooperation to make food systems safe, strong and inclusive.
He also spoke about the important role of FSSAI in developing global food safety standards, including to introduce mobile labs for rapid testing kits and testing.
The Union Minister said, “FSSAI has emerged as a global leader in the field of food security and standards and is playing an important role on international platforms through Codex Elementary Commission. India, through FSSAI, organizes the Codex Committee on spices and herbs, and it has developed 14 global standards and develops 14 global standards for Asia, Street food promotes safety and regional cooperation. “
Nadda said, “India has received important Codex support for standards related to millet, cashew and advanced supplement and functional food standards.”
Nadda said, “At the national level, FSSAI has modernized food standards, approve the rapid testing kit and expand infrastructure for labs including mobile testing labs.”
In addition, he emphasized the need for food safety because “the quality of our diet affects our body, mind and quality of life.”
The Health Minister also called the food a “a powerful power” and emphasized the need for better compliance to create global beliefs.
Emphasizing the need for food safety, he said that global exchange of food products could have a significant impact on health and welfare.
Nadda said, “When countries are involved in the global exchange of food products, they do not trade only goods. It has an impact on the health and welfare of their population.”
The Health Minister said, “Any type of lapse in food security can cause serious public health crisis, disrupted business, and can harm the reputation of businesses and nations. Therefore, food security does not only mean compliance, but more importantly, it creates confidence in global food systems.”
