Ghaziabad, October 17 (IANS). In view of the upcoming festivals, the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department has taken major action in Ghaziabad to stop the sale of adulterated and unhygienic food items. The team recovered about 2,500 kg of adulterated cheese in village Nidori of tehsil Sadar.
The food security team had received information from the informer that the sweets manufacturing complex of Tawarikh in village Nidori of Tehsil Sadar was raided. During investigation, storage of about 2,500 kg of prepared sweets was found in the premises. During inspection, sweets like Rasgulla, Gram Flour Boondi, Colorful Rasgulla, Khoya, Milk Cake and Gulab Jamun were found not to conform to the food safety standards.
After this the team took samples of sweets and sent them to the laboratory for testing. During investigation the team found that the cheese was stored in plastic drums in an unhygienic and contaminated manner. Also, possibility of adulteration was found in it.
Additionally, extremely unhygienic storage conditions were found in the premises, where there were flies, ants and filth. Due to this, about 300 kg of sweets, estimated to be worth Rs 1.30 lakh, was destroyed on the spot. The sweets destroyed included colored rasgulla, white rasgulla and cashew barfi.
Further, it was also found that the establishment did not have any valid license for food business. If violation of rules was found, the department stopped the manufacturing work with immediate effect.
In the same sequence, on Thursday also about 650 kg of adulterated cheese was recovered in the new fruit and vegetable market located in Sahibabad, Ghaziabad. Its estimated price was around Rs 1.95 lakh.
The team issued a strict warning to shopkeepers that strict legal action would be taken against any person or establishment violating food safety standards.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department in Noida raided shops and sent samples of a total of 10 food items for testing. In Greater Noida West area also, samples of cheese were taken from Chauhan Paneer Store and Chaudhary Paneer Store. All the samples were sent to the laboratory for testing.
