Ranchi, October 9 (IANS). The 61st meeting of the governing body of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Jharkhand’s largest government hospital, was held on Thursday. 24 agendas were discussed in the meeting and many important decisions were taken, which will have a direct impact on patients and hospital staff.

Retired judge Amreshwar Sahay presided over the meeting. The most important decision of the meeting was to provide financial assistance to the families of the patients who lost their lives during treatment.

Now the RIMS management will immediately give an amount of Rs 5,000 through UPI to the family of the deceased for the last rites. This facility will be available to all sections and it is estimated to cost around Rs 7 crore annually. To run this scheme smoothly, in addition to the existing five Mokshavans, more vehicles will be purchased.

In view of the festivals, it was also decided to increase the salaries of ANM, GNM, outsourcing employees and other personnel working in RIMS. Along with this, in a big step, the stipend of junior doctors doing internship on the lines of AIIMS has been increased to Rs 30,000 per month.

It has been decided to increase the number of beds in the hospital to eliminate the problem of patients being treated on the ground. Under this, 114 new beds will be arranged in the ophthalmology department and 94 new beds in the oncology (cancer) department. Besides, it was also agreed to improve the testing facilities and install MRI machine soon.

In financial matters, the RIMS Director has now been given the authority to spend an amount up to Rs 1 crore, whereas any amount exceeding this will require the approval of the committee.

However, RIMS’ proposal to increase MBBS seats from 180 to 250 has been rejected by NMC, against which the management has appealed.

At the same time, the proposal to increase PG seats from 176 to 250 and Super Specialty seats from 9 to 50 has been moved forward. In the meeting, it was also decided to relieve Dr. Rajeev Ranjan from the post of Public Relations Officer. The next meeting of RIMS GB will be held on 12 November.
