New Delhi, 30 September (IANS). Most people feel that incidents like heart attack, stroke or heart failure occur without any warning. But a new study has proved this notion completely wrong.
The research conducted by Northwestern University in the United States and South Korea’s Yonsey University revealed that there is already some risk factor in the body before the heart disease occurred in 99 percent of cases.
In this study, scientists analyzed the health data of about 93 million Korean and more than 7,000 American people. These people were followed for nearly 20 years. The study observed that people who suffered diseases like heart attack, heart failure or stroke were already one or more risk factors. These four main risk factors were high blood pressure (high blood pressure), high cholesterol, high blood sugar and tobacco.
The most found risk factor was high blood pressure. Blood pressure was found above normal before heart disease in more than 95 per cent in Korea and more than 93 per cent of patients in the US. Surprisingly, young women, who are generally considered to be a low risk of heart disease, also had some risk factor in more than 95 percent of cases.
Dr. Philip Greenland, senior writer of this research, said, “This research is proof that heart diseases are not suddenly, but there are already reasons behind them, which can be identified and prevented.” Now the time has come for us to pay attention to the reasons that can be changed, such as high BP, sugar control, quitting smoking and keeping cholesterol normal.
A secondary analysis was also done in the study, in which the serious boundary fixed by doctors was made the basis, such as blood pressure above 140/90, more than 240, more than 240, blood sugar above 126 and smoking. This analysis also found that these serious level risk factors were present before the first heart attack or stroke in more than 90 percent of patients.
