Mumbai, January 15 (IANS). In winter, people often have this question in their mind that with which water to wash their face, hot or cold water. Morning time is very important for our skin. The skin recharges itself during sleep and starting the day the right way keeps the skin healthy and glowing for a long time.
Both Ayurveda and science believe that the temperature of water has a direct impact on the pores, oil and moisture of our skin, so it is very important to know the right way to wash the face in winter.
First of all let’s talk about hot water. Initially it seems refreshing and relaxing, but if very hot water is used to wash the face, it can be harmful for the skin.
It is said in Ayurveda that very hot water removes the natural oily layer of the skin, causing the skin to become dry and red. According to science, hot water destroys sebum, the natural barrier present on the skin, which protects the skin from moisture and infection. Continuous use of hot water can increase problems like itching, dryness and sometimes even acne on the face. Therefore, whether it is cold or hot weather, it is not advisable to wash the face with extremely hot water.
Now talking about cold water, cold water makes the face feel refreshed. According to Ayurveda, cold water balances Vata dosha and refreshes the skin by increasing blood circulation. It helps reduce inflammation and redness and temporarily shrinks facial pores. But science shows that cold water alone does not provide complete deep cleansing of the skin, as cold water is less effective in completely removing oil and dirt. Constant use of cold water can dry out the skin, so one should avoid using it for main cleansing.
The best method in winter is to use lukewarm water. Ayurveda considers it to be a balanced and gentle water, which cleanses the skin without harming it. Lukewarm water gently removes dirt, oil and sweat from the face and retains the natural oil of the skin. According to science, lukewarm water opens the pores and removes dirt and dead skin, making the skin soft, fresh and glowing. Also, it prevents the skin from becoming dry or irritated.
Another method is ice or ice water. It feels instantly refreshing to the skin and reduces inflammation and redness by shrinking blood vessels. According to Ayurveda, it calms Vata and provides coolness to the face. However, using ice water for a long time can cause the skin to lose moisture and become dry, so ice water should always be used with caution. At the same time, moisturizer should be applied after washing the face.
