We should keep some things in mind while eating food. What we eat and what we mix with it has a direct impact on our digestive system. Wrong food combination can lead to poor digestion and accumulation of toxins in the body. This can cause gas, bloating, acidity, skin problems and serious diseases in the long run. Come, let us tell you on the basis of Ayurveda which combinations we should avoid.

What does Ayurveda say?

According to KVayurveda, an organization providing information about Ayurveda, Ayurveda believes that every person has different Vata, Pitta, Kapha and digestion capacity. Some foods have counterproductive properties. If they are eaten together again and again, it puts extra pressure on the digestive system. This can cause problems like gas, constipation, heartburn, acne, weak immunity and digestion problems.

Which food combinations should be avoided?

According to Ayurveda, some of the most recommended food combinations are milk and fish. According to Ayurveda, milk is considered cold and heavy, while fish is considered hot. Eating them together can spoil digestion and cause skin problems. Similarly, sour fruits like orange, lemon or pineapple should also not be eaten with milk, as they can tear the milk in the stomach and increase gas or acidity.

Even in Ayurveda, drinking honey mixed with hot food is considered harmful. Heating honey can change its properties and have toxic effects on the body. It is also not advisable to eat fruits immediately after a heavy meal, because fruits are digested quickly and can cause fermentation in the stomach with heavy meals. Mixing curd and sugar is also considered unhealthy for digestion. Curd is already sour and cold, while refined sugar can further increase the imbalance in the body. Eating curd with fruits or cold things at night can increase phlegm, which can cause cold and sinus problems. Drinking milk along with stale food is also considered unhealthy for digestion.

What to eat?

Ayurveda recommends eating seasonal food, avoiding overeating and using spices like ginger, cumin and fennel, which promote digestion. Adopting the right food combination promotes digestion, improves absorption of nutrients and keeps the body balanced. These rules are especially beneficial for children, elderly and people with poor digestion.
