Ramban, January 1 (IANS). The Health Department organized ‘Anemia Free India’ program on Thursday in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, in which trained doctors, Asha workers and other women employees of the department actively participated.
During the programme, Asha workers were made aware about effective measures to deal with anemia in women and children. Trained doctors informed the participants about the diagnosis, prevention and management of anemia. Furthermore, the important role of ASHA workers in reaching out to the community was emphasized.
The doctors also stressed that ASHA workers should go to their respective areas, spread awareness, identify anemia cases at early stages and ensure proper guidance and follow-up. The objective of this initiative is to strengthen the grassroots level interventions, so that through collective and sustained efforts Ramban district can be made anemia free.
Dr. Reyaz told IANS that continuous work is being done on the ‘Anemia Free India’ campaign in the district and shortcomings in this regard are being identified. There was an open discussion in the program held in Ramban. Work regarding the campaign will be started from the ground level.
He told that Asha workers will give iron folic acid syrup to children aged six months to five years. One ml syrup is to be given in a week. Asha workers will continuously monitor it and a record will be prepared. Later, when the mother understands this, she will be able to do this work herself. Later, pink tablets will be given to children between 5 years to 9 years. Then blue tablets will be given to children between 10 years to 19 years.
Dr. Ankula said that during the program we have given information about the ‘Anemia Free India’ program to the Asha workers. Asha workers have been told how to go door-to-door and give medicines to children.
