New Delhi, June 6 (IANS). The government said on Saturday that so far more than 1.20 crore senior citizens have been registered under the Ayushman Bharat Vaya Vandana Scheme. More than 13.84 lakh treatments have been done under this scheme, the total cost of which is approximately Rs 3,000 crore.

According to the government, under the Mission Indradhanush campaign, 5.46 crore children and 1.32 crore pregnant women were vaccinated who had not received any vaccine earlier.

An official statement said that the share of children who did not receive any vaccine (zero-dose children) was 0.11 percent of the total population in the year 2023, which will reduce to 0.06 percent in the year 2024.

The government is running the Universal Immunization Program (UIP), under which free vaccines against 12 diseases are provided to 2.67 crore newborns and 2.9 crore pregnant women every year.

Referring to the progress made in the health sector in the last 12 years, the government said that more than 44 crore families have got the benefit of health insurance under various government schemes and more than 1.86 lakh primary health centers have been operated.

The government said that through more than 18,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras, generic medicines are being made available at 50 to 90 percent lower prices than the market prices.

According to the statement, more than 47 crore telemedicine consultation services have been provided so far in the country. At the same time, the number of medical colleges has more than doubled and after 2014, 12 new AIIMS institutes have become operational.

The government also said that traditional medical practices have been formally made part of the public health system.

According to the government, the capacity for training doctors and nurses has been more than doubled to meet the growing demand for health services.

Under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), free health insurance of up to Rs 5 lakh per family per year is provided to socially and economically weaker families.

Such families constitute about 40 percent of the total population of the country, which is equivalent to about 12 crore families. This scheme helps these families to save themselves from huge expenses on treatment.

According to the government, so far 44.14 crore Ayushman cards have been made under this scheme. Additionally, 12.03 crore hospitalization cases have been covered and treatment worth approximately Rs 1,80,435 crore has been provided.

36,218 hospitals have been empaneled under the scheme, including 19,659 government and 16,559 private hospitals.
