New Delhi, October 30 (IANS). According to Ayurveda, morning routine i.e. daily routine is the foundation of a healthy and balanced life. Especially the time of Brahma Muhurta (4 to 6 in the morning) is considered the most auspicious and energetic. This time is considered extremely pure and good for body, mind and soul.
First of all let’s talk about getting up early in the morning. Ayurveda says that one should wake up in Brahmamuhurte Uttisthet i.e. about one and a half hour before sunrise. At this time the atmosphere is calm and full of energy. People who wake up at this time have better memory, concentration and lung capacity.
After waking up, the most important thing is oral purification, i.e. cleaning of teeth and tongue. One should brush teeth with a neem, khair or acacia toothbrush and scrape off the layer (cum) on the tongue. This not only removes bad breath but also activates the digestive system. It is said in Ayurveda that cleaning the tongue helps in removing the toxins from the body.
After this comes Ushapan (water intake), i.e. drinking lukewarm water on an empty stomach in the morning. If this water is kept in a copper or earthen vessel then it is even better. This relieves constipation, gas and many skin related problems. It cleans the body from inside and speeds up metabolism.
Now comes the turn of purifying the nose and eyes. It is very beneficial to wash eyes with cold water in the morning and put two drops of cow’s ghee or Anu oil in the nose. This improves eyesight, provides relief from sinus and allergies and keeps the mind calm.
Morning time is best suited for yoga, exercise and pranayam. Doing light asanas like Surya Namaskar, Tadasana or Anulom-Vilom improves blood circulation and infuses new energy in the body. This keeps away fatigue and stress throughout the day.
After this, take bath, which not only cleans the body but also purifies the mind. Taking bath with cold or lukewarm water removes laziness and refreshes the mind. After bath there is time for worship or meditation. It increases self-confidence and mental peace. A person who starts the day with positive thoughts remains happy and focused throughout the day.
Finally comes breakfast. Morning meal should be light and nutritious, like fruits, porridge, moong khichdi or milk. This improves digestion and provides necessary energy to the body.
