New Delhi, November 7 (IANS). Excessive consumption of salt can be dangerous for health. At the same time, eating less can also be harmful for health. Celebrity fitness expert and nutritionist Pooja Makhija gave information about the trend of eating less salt and its dangers.

He told that people give up salt completely due to fear of high blood pressure, but too little sodium can also prove dangerous for the body. Kidneys, hormones, brain and muscles are affected by this. He told that lack of salt puts extra pressure on the kidneys.

The body increases hormones such as renin, angiotensin and aldosterone to conserve water and salt, which causes fluctuations in blood pressure and increases stress on the nerves. This condition can cause serious problems if it continues for a long time. This danger is even greater for diabetic patients. Low sodium increases insulin levels, drops blood sugar and causes intense salt cravings.

According to experts, this completely spoils the metabolism, which makes diabetes control difficult. Eating less salt for a long time can cause hyponatremia, in which the sodium level in the blood falls. Its symptoms include fatigue, headache, confusion, lack of concentration, muscle cramps. In severe cases, seizures may occur.

Sharing her experience, Pooja said, “I heard from many people complaining of cramps and dizziness during exercise in the gym, which was mainly due to low sodium.”

Sodium is essential for nerve signals and muscle contraction. Low salt reduces gym performance, increases cramps and upsets the balance of stress hormones. Nerves and muscles become weak.

Many researches also confirm that low salt increases the risk of heart diseases, whether there is blood pressure or not. In such a situation, low salt diet is not beneficial for everyone.

The suggestions for this big problem are also simple. For this, make mineral water at home. Mix a pinch of rock salt in pure water. One fourth teaspoon in 1 liter of water is enough. This keeps the body hydrated, provides minerals and relieves fatigue and cramps. However, if there is any disease, then work only after consulting a doctor.
