New Delhi, November 10 (IANS). Sarpagandha appears to be a simple plant, but there is a treasure of Ayurvedic properties hidden within it. Found in India, Sri Lanka and many parts of Asia, this plant has been famous in Ayurveda for centuries as a calming herb. By using it one can get relief from many diseases.
Reserpine found in the root of Sarpagandha controls blood pressure in the body. It provides relief from problems like insomnia, stress and anxiety. Not only this, in ancient times it was also used to reduce the poison of snakes and scorpions.
Sarpagandha also affects the brain and nervous system, which calms your mind, leads to deep sleep and reduces anger.
This plant is about 30 to 60 centimeters high in size. Its bright green leaves and small white or light purple flowers look very attractive, but the real treasure is its roots hidden inside the soil. Its root is used as medicine.
Sarpagandha can also be grown at home. The plant becomes ready in 18 to 24 months, whose roots can be used as medicine.
Sarpagandha root is used in many forms in Ayurveda. Taking half a gram of its powder daily with lukewarm water or milk is beneficial. Apart from this, making a decoction by boiling the root in water and drinking it 1-2 times a day also gives strength and peace to the mind. Nowadays many Ayurvedic companies also make it available in the form of capsules or tablets.
However, Sarpagandha should not be taken without consulting an Ayurvedic doctor. Apart from this, if you are bitten by a snake, do not rely only on Sarpagandha, but go to the doctor immediately.
