Hyderabad, May 25 (IANS). An incident that shames humanity has come to light in Bhadrachalam in Bhadradri Kothagudem district of Telangana. A family had to carry the body of their relative on their shoulders as the government hospital did not provide a hearse.
According to the information, Kandi Venkanna (45) was admitted to the government hospital in Bhadrachalam due to heatstroke. He died during treatment on Sunday night. It is alleged that the hospital administration did not arrange a vehicle to carry the dead body. The family, which was struggling with financial constraints, had no other option, due to which the family members had to carry the body on their shoulders.
Videos and pictures of the incident went viral on social media, following which the district administration ordered an investigation into the matter on Monday.
There is huge anger among the people regarding the incident and the administration is being strongly criticized. Opposition parties have also targeted the Congress government.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader T. Harish Rao asked, “Is this the ‘Praja Palna’ (people’s rule) that was promised to the people?” He said that the condition of the public health system of Telangana has become very worrying and sad under the Congress government.
Referring to another incident, Harish Rao said a poor pregnant woman in Tandoor had to give birth on the railway platform as the 108 ambulance service allegedly did not provide help despite repeated calls.
“A poor family in Bhadrachalam had to carry the body of their relative on their shoulders as the hospital reportedly could not even provide a hearse,” he said.
BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao said that this incident is enough to show how bad the situation in Telangana has become under the Congress rule.
He wrote on Twitter, “There is no support while alive and no respect even after death. The Congress government has brought Telangana to such a situation.”
Rama Rao said that former Chief Minister K. During the tenure of Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR), special vehicles were provided for the last rites of the poor, so that their last journey could be conducted with dignity.
He said, “This was humanity… a resolve to protect the dignity of the people. But today under Congress rule, families have to carry the dead bodies on their own shoulders, which is a stain on the self-respect of Telangana.”
Telangana Raksha Sena (TRS) leader K. Kavitha also condemned the incident, saying it shows the insensitivity of the Revanth Reddy government towards the poor.
He alleged that the hospital administration did not even provide a hearse to carry the body of the person who lost his life due to the heatwave.
Kavita said, “It is heartbreaking to read that the family, which is struggling with financial constraints, carried the body on its shoulders for more than a kilometer.”
He held Revanth Reddy government morally responsible for the incident and demanded strict action against the guilty officials.
