New Delhi, December 6 (IANS). Not only external but also internal cleanliness of the body is necessary. Be it Yoga method or Ayurveda, it tells about many methods of detox. One of the best procedures is Shank Prakshalan.
Shankha Prakshalana, one of the most powerful purification processes of Hatha Yoga, is a natural method of washing from inside the mouth to the anus, especially the intestine, which is called prakshalana (complete washing) of the shankha (digestive system). It is also called Varisar Dhauti and Kayakalp Kriya. Shankha Prakshalana deeply cleanses the body. Preparation for this also has to start a day before. For this, light food like dal or khichdi should be eaten.
Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga gives detailed information about Shankha Prakshalana. How to practice? Also gives information about this. For this, mix rock salt as per taste in lukewarm water on an empty stomach in the morning. Drink 2 glasses of water rapidly, then practice 6 special asanas Tadasana, Tiryaka Tadasana, Katichkrasana, Tiryaka Bhujangasana, Udarkarshana and Kagasana. Drink 2 glasses of water again and repeat the asana. Continue this sequence until the water starts becoming completely clear during defecation.
Usually 4 to 6 liters of water is required for Shank Prakshalan. Finally rest for 30 to 40 minutes and eat only light khichdi of moong dal-rice with ghee.
With this action, problems like chronic constipation, gas, acidity, indigestion are eliminated. The scum and toxins accumulated in the intestines for years are removed and the stomach becomes light. Not only this, it improves the skin, reduces acne and blemishes, reduces weight rapidly, increases digestive power and strengthens the immune system. Mental stress and irritability go away and sleep becomes deeper.
Experts say that Shank Prakshalana should be practiced once or twice a month. However, some people should also exercise caution. Do not practice it at all during high blood pressure, ulcer, hernia, serious kidney disease or pregnancy. This activity should be done only under the supervision of a trained yoga guru or on the advice of a doctor. One should completely avoid tea, coffee, milk, spicy food for the next 24-48 hours.
