Kuwait’s court has given a strict verdict in a major drug smuggling case. On 10 February 2026, the Court of Appeal upheld the death sentences of five Iranian citizens. These people are accused of bringing huge quantities of narcotics into Kuwait via sea. This decision has been taken under Kuwait’s new and strict anti-drug law which has come into force recently.

The bench headed by Judge Dr. Fahad Bu Salib approved this decision. Earlier, the Court of First Instance had also sentenced these five migrants to death. Now the case will go to the Court of Cassation, the highest court of Kuwait, for final appeal. The accused admitted their mistake in the court and admitted that they themselves were drug addicts and had consumed drugs to overcome their fear during smuggling.

Kuwait Coast Guard had caught these accused with a boat as soon as they entered Kuwaiti territorial waters. Investigation revealed that these people had brought about 175 to 176 kilograms of hashish and other intoxicants. During interrogation, it was revealed that the goods were to be handed over to a Kuwaiti citizen on the basis of GPS location. The Drug Control General Department (DCGD) has exposed this entire network.

The court has made it clear that a policy of zero-tolerance will be adopted towards those who play with the security of the country and the health of the public. Under the new law, death penalty has been made mandatory for trafficking or using minors. The court said that narcotics are a major threat to national security and strict action is necessary to stop them.
