Agartala, July 8 (IANS). Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday again said that the main objective of the state government is to strengthen the healthcare services in Tripura, so that people can get good and affordable medical treatment without going out of the state and incurring huge medical expenses.

Addressing the 69th edition of ‘Mukhyamantri Samipeshu’ public relations program at his official residence, the Chief Minister said that the government is continuously improving the healthcare infrastructure of the state and expanding medical facilities to meet the growing healthcare needs of the people.

Saha said, “The improvement in Tripura’s healthcare system is now clearly visible. Many diseases for which patients earlier had to travel to other states are now being treated in Agartala itself. If treatment is not available in the state, patients are being referred to prestigious government institutions like AIIMS, New Delhi. Telemedicine services at GB Hospital are also helping in providing better healthcare facilities and benefiting a large number of patients.”

He said the government’s focus is not only on expanding healthcare infrastructure but also on ensuring that every citizen, irrespective of his or her economic status, gets timely and quality medical care within the state.

Despite inclement weather and recent natural disasters, a large number of people from different parts of Tripura attended the Public Grievance Redressal Programme, most of whom sought financial and medical assistance for the treatment of seriously ill family members.

Saha also holds the charge of Health and Family Welfare Department. He patiently heard each case individually and directed the officials of the concerned departments to take immediate and appropriate action so that the applicants get the necessary assistance without any delay.

Those seeking medical assistance included Rupali Namasudra of Ambassa in Dhalai district (for the treatment of her child), the family of Bikash Debbarma of Dhanbilas village in Kailashahar, Abdul Hussain of North Tripura district (for the treatment of his wife), Prabir Barman of Khowai district (for the treatment of his son’s complex eye disease) and Gayatri Bhattacharya of Unakoti district (for the treatment of a serious ailment of the digestive system). In two very serious cases, the Chief Minister directed officials to immediately make arrangements for specialized treatment for the patients at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.

Many residents of Agartala also contacted the Chief Minister and sought financial and medical help for their family members suffering from serious diseases like cancer. The Chief Minister directed the officials to take appropriate steps to provide them necessary help.

Members of the Fish Traders Association also met Saha and informed him about various issues affecting their livelihood and business activities.

The Chief Minister assured them that the government would consider their concerns sympathetically and provide all possible help.

During the programme, Saha handed over a check of Rs 3.90 lakh as financial assistance to the family of a person who lost his life in the recent natural disaster in Agartala. Along with this, he reiterated the resolve of the state government to provide timely relief and help to the affected families during the crisis.

The Chief Minister also provided financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh to the family of Shubhrajit Chaudhary, who died in a tragic blast in Agartala’s Ramnagar area a few days ago.
