Hanoi, April 14 (IANS). An outbreak of dengue infection is being seen in Vietnam. So far, more than 30 cases have been reported in the country, while four deaths have occurred. Meanwhile, Vietnam’s Health Ministry has warned that cases of dengue infection may increase further.
Local daily newspaper ‘Nhan Dan’ reported on Tuesday that 31,927 cases have been recorded in the country since the beginning of this year, including four deaths. According to the report, most of the cases are concentrated in the southern areas.
At the same time, according to the report of news agency ‘Xinhua’, Vo Hai Son, Deputy Director of Vietnam Disease Prevention Administration, said that if prevention and control measures are not strictly implemented, the cases of infection may increase further in the near future.
According to the report, the health department is working closely with local authorities to monitor and control the outbreak, while also intensifying public awareness campaigns about disease prevention.
This warning has come at a time when the hot and humid season has started early and rainfall is becoming irregular, creating favorable conditions for mosquitoes to breed. More than 181,000 cases of dengue fever were recorded in Vietnam last year, with 36 deaths.
Dengue is a viral infection, which spreads to humans through mosquito bites. Most people who have dengue do not show any symptoms. Among those who do show symptoms, the most common symptoms are high fever, headache, body ache, nausea and body rashes. Most people recover in 1-2 weeks. In some people, dengue becomes severe, requiring hospitalization. In severe cases, dengue can even be fatal.
