New Delhi, March 16 (IANS). In Indian food, roti is not just a part of the meal but is an important part of everyday life. Be it village or city, rich or poor, bread is prepared at least once a day in the kitchen of every house. Most of the people fill their stomach by eating wheat bread and this seems to be the most common food for them, but both Ayurveda and science believe that rotis made from different grains have different effects on the body.

According to Ayurveda, every grain has its own nature and properties. Some grains keep the body warm, some strengthen digestion and some help in giving strength to the body. At the same time, scientific research shows that the fiber, vitamins, minerals and proteins present in different grains benefit different parts of the body, hence if we eat different types of breads from time to time, the body can get more balanced nutrition.

First of all let’s talk about wheat bread. This bread is eaten the most in India. Nutrients like fiber, protein and vitamin B are naturally found in wheat. According to science, fiber helps the digestive system to function properly and makes the stomach feel full for a longer period. Ayurveda also believes that wheat is a grain that gives energy to the body. Wheat bread is helpful in giving strength to the body. Its regular consumption gives stable energy to the body and reduces fatigue.

If we talk about millet roti, it is called a treasure of nutrition. Iron, calcium and fiber are found in good quantities in millet. According to Ayurveda, millet is a grain that keeps the body warm, hence its consumption in winter is considered more beneficial. From a scientific point of view, the iron present in millet helps in making blood, which can be beneficial in the problem of anemia. Calcium makes bones strong.

Jowar roti is also considered very useful for health. Fiber and antioxidants are found in jowar. Fiber strengthens digestion, while antioxidants help protect the body from diseases. According to scientists, consumption of jowar can also help in controlling weight, because after eating it one does not feel hungry for a long time. Even in Ayurveda, jowar is considered a light and easy to digest grain. This is the reason why jowar roti is considered a good option for people who have stomach related problems.

Corn bread has special importance in North India. Corn bread and mustard greens are considered a popular food especially in winter. Carbohydrates and fiber are present in corn, which provide energy to the body and improve digestion. Apart from this, some nutrients are also found in it which are considered beneficial for eye health. According to Ayurveda, maize is a grain that strengthens the body and eating it in balanced quantity can provide good nutrition to the body.
