A big fraud regarding tickets has come to light in Air India. About 4,000 employees of the company sold the free air tickets they got for their families to outsiders. After investigating this matter, Air India administration has become strict and strict action has been initiated against the guilty employees. Tata Group has adopted a policy of zero tolerance against corruption and has issued an order to recover the entire amount from the culprits.

What is the whole matter and how did the fraud happen?

Under Air India’s Employee Leisure Travel (ELT) policy, every employee gets 14 free or discounted return tickets in a financial year. As per rules, these tickets are only for the travel of the employee, his spouse, children and parents. But investigation revealed that out of the total 24,000 employees of the company, more than 4,000 people misused this rule.

By submitting fake documents, the employees made outsiders, friends and acquaintances their nominees by claiming to be their relatives. After this, these free tickets were sold to outsiders at high prices through agents in the black market. This fraud has been caught in the investigation by the internal audit team of Air India.

Air India took strict action

After this big revelation, Air India has decided to impose heavy penalty on the fraudsters. The company is taking several strict steps to compensate for its losses and improve the working environment.

Recovery of money: Air India has ordered the guilty employees to recover the full commercial value (market value) of all the tickets which were misused.
Impact on future profits: ‘Disciplinary mark’ is being recorded in the service records of the culprits. This will affect their future promotions and other benefits from the company.
New strict rule: To prevent such frauds in future, the company has now made it mandatory to provide proof of relationship while registering the nominee.

According to sources, investigation has also revealed that most of the employees involved in this fraud are those who had joined Air India after the privatization of the company in January 2022. The company considers this matter to be a serious breach of ethics and conduct.
