Visibility reduced in North India on Friday due to dense fog extending from Punjab to Bihar, following which the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a ‘red alert’ for Delhi and warned that road, rail and air traffic would be affected.
IMD officials said that in the images received from satellite, dense fog is visible in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Northeastern Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.
At 5.30 am, visibility of zero meters was recorded in Agra, Bareilly, Saharanpur and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, Ambala, Amritsar, Bathinda, Ludhiana and Adampur in Punjab, Safdarjung in Delhi, Ambala in Haryana, Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, Bhagalpur in Bihar, and Daltonganj in Jharkhand.
IMD has issued a red alert for Delhi, warning that due to fog, operations at some airports may be disrupted and highways and railway routes may also be affected.
‘Orange alert’ has been issued for many districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Agra, Aligarh, Baghpat, Bareilly, Bijnor, Bulandshahr, Etah, Etawah, Firozabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Hathras, Mathura, Meerut, Moradabad, Muzaffarnagar, Pilibhit, Rampur, Saharanpur, Shahjahanpur and Shamli.
