There is a saying here that a match is made by God, similarly a pair has been made between India and Russia, which is also unbreakable and love seems as if everyone wants such a pair to be with us too.
Where arms, trade, oil, deals are just pages, the entire book is written with heart and confidence. In today’s world the word friendship has become light. But if we want to understand friendship then it can be understood by looking at the relationship between India and Russia. Where there is no fear, no greed, no conditions, if everything is there then it is only selfless companionship.
What is friendship?
“Friendship is the companionship in crisis, respect in prosperity, and the selfless relationship of heart to heart.”
Or say it like this-
“When the world is against you, the circumstances are bad, and still the one who puts his hand on the shoulder and says – Don’t be afraid, I am here…
He is a true friend.”
And this is the relationship between India and Russia.
This is not just friendship of military, nuclear or weapons…
This is two civilizations becoming brothers. The world always showed us the friendship of MIG, S-400, BrahMos. But it does not show where hearts met, where trust stood, and when it happened when the rest of the world stood far away but India and Russia stood as a shield for each other.
When the world did not support India – but Russia stood like a rock
1. 1971 war – when the whole world was with Pakistan
America, Britain, China, all three stood in favor of Pakistan. America even sent a nuclear aircraft carrier to scare India. Britain and China also stood against India, then Russia was its only friend who-
✔ Nuclear submarines sent in support of Indian Navy
✔ Vetoed for India 3 times in UN
✔ Gave clear warning to America-Britain
“A single move against India = direct interference by Russia.”
2. The world was against India on Kashmir issue – Russia became a wall
For years, America-Britain-Pakistan kept bringing resolutions against India in the UN. But every time Russia said:
“Kashmir is an internal matter of India. This was not just “support” it was a defense of India’s sovereignty.
3. 1998 nuclear test – everyone banned, but not Russia
America, Europe, Japan all imposed sanctions.
But Russia did not impose any sanctions on India but on the contrary increased nuclear technology and cooperation. This was not friendship but it was elder brother’s trust.
4. S-400 case – When America started scaring
NATO clearly said – “It will not give such technology to anyone.” But Russia gave India the world’s best air-defense system. Shared BrahMos technology which even America does not give such technology to anyone.
5. Russia-Ukraine War – The world left Russia, not India
Even in such difficult times, despite economic sanctions, Russia delivered the cheapest oil, cheapest fertilizers and many other essential commodities to India without any restrictions and conditions. That is why it is said that the measure of friendship is determined by the relationships maintained in times of crisis.
When Russia was alone, India stood with it like a wall.
1. 1956- Suez Crisis / Hungary Crisis
The entire western world was against Russia but India refused to call Russia a “lone aggressor”. Understood Russia’s security interests. This was the moral courage of India.
2. 1979- World against Russia in Afghan war
America, Europe, China were all blaming Russia, but India did not break relations, did not condemn Russia and did not even leave Russia alone on the international stage.
Russia also knows that “if anyone can stand for it in the world, it is India only.”
3. 2014 — Crimea Crisis
The whole world was imposing sanctions against Russia.
But India did not vote against Russia and also called Russia’s security concerns legitimate.
4. 2022–2025 — Global sanctions on Russia, but India did not leave it
This is the biggest example in modern history. When the world was distancing itself from Russia, India stood with Russia and Russia kept saying:
“India is not just our old friend but our brother.”
Message for the young generation-
Relationships are not built on deals, but on sacrifice, trust and togetherness. This is the story of India-Russia. The two countries are far apart in cultures, different in languages, but absolutely alike in heart and soul. Both the countries never make friendship out of fear of anyone and never give up friendship under any pressure. Today’s youth should understand –
*When the rest of the world tested us, put pressure on us, stopped us, then Russia supported us. And when Russia became alone, India stood with it.*
This is not a relationship of newspapers, this is a relationship of hearts.
Finally, a feeling which should reside in the heart of every Indo-Russian youth.
“Friendship ends where selfishness begins and India-Russia friendship begins where the heart says – If you are happy, I am happy.”
Today both our countries are developing and moving forward but the direction is the same. In which there is trust, respect and brotherhood.
It is not just friendship, it is a relationship that even time is proud of.
