HDFC Bank has taken a relief decision for its customers. The bank has announced a reduction in SMS charges for its popular Insta Alert service. This new rule will be implemented from May 1, 2026. The bank says that they want to increase the value of the services provided to their customers and that is why it has been decided to reduce the charges. The bank has given this information to its customers through an official message.
What are the new charges and their effective date?
According to the information received from the bank, the SMS charge for Insta Alert service will be reduced from 20 paise plus GST to 15 paise plus GST. This change will be fully effective from May 1, 2026. For customers who receive alerts via email, this service will remain free as usual. The bank keeps making such changes in its policies from time to time so that the customers can get better facilities.
What do customers need to keep in mind?
Under Insta Alert, information like bill payment, salary receipt and low account balance are received through SMS. Customers can switch on or off these services as per their convenience through NetBanking or MobileBanking app. As per RBI guidelines, important alerts related to debit/credit cards and net banking will continue to be provided by the bank without any charge. Customers who are not registered for Insta Alert service will also continue to receive important transaction alerts for free. This charge is only for additional alerts that the customer opts for.
