New Delhi, June 11 (IANS). NASSCOM, the premier body of the IT industry, has announced the formation of the UK Technology Advisory Council (TAC), which will act as a strategic industry advisory body to the Indian High Commission in the UK and make suggestions to rapidly advance the India-UK technology partnership. This announcement was made on Thursday.
The initiative aims to promote government-led technological security initiatives, enhance cooperation in the field of AI, encourage cross-border trade and investment, strengthen talent development and ease of doing business. This will help in doubling bilateral trade under Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and achieving the goals of ‘Vision 2035’.
The main focus of the Technology Advisory Council will be to strengthen the India-UK Technology Corridor. Along with this, efforts will be made to establish Indian technology companies as a trustworthy and reliable partner in fulfilling Britain’s digital ambitions.
The UK is currently the second largest market for the Indian technology industry, while India remains the second largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI) into the UK.
India’s High Commissioner to Britain Periyasamy Kumaran said that technical cooperation plays an important role in shaping the relations between the two countries.
He said, “The Indian IT industry is deeply committed to the UK market. It is creating high-quality jobs, developing local talent, driving innovation and making a significant contribution to the UK’s economic growth. Building trust and collaborative innovation will be vital as we race to be the leader in AI across the world.”
Along with the launch of the council, a report was also released, which showed that India’s major big technology companies are supporting more than 35,000 jobs in Britain.
According to the report, about 62 percent of the local employees of these companies are employed outside London. This is also strengthening Britain’s regional development policy.
These companies are investing in local talent, creating high-value jobs and developing digital capabilities in areas such as Greater Manchester, South Yorkshire, Birmingham, Reading, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
NASSCOM Chairman Rajesh Nambiar said that India-UK technology partnership is no longer limited to just business relations, but has become an important strategic pillar of economic growth, innovation and digital transformation of both the countries.
“The UK Technology Advisory Council will provide a common platform for industry and government to work together on the opportunities and challenges associated with the future digital economy,” he said.
