The Ministry of External Affairs on Sunday expressed deep concern over the developments taking place in Venezuela. The statement further said that they are monitoring the situation closely.

“Recent developments in Venezuela are of deep concern. We are monitoring the situation closely,” the statement said.

India urged the parties concerned to resort to dialogue and diplomacy.

“India reaffirms its support for the well-being and security of the Venezuelan people. We call on all concerned parties to resolve issues peacefully through dialogue to ensure peace and stability in the region,” the statement said.

The statement further said, “The Indian Embassy in Caracas is in touch with the members of the Indian community and will continue to provide all possible assistance.”

On Saturday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) advised Indian citizens to avoid all non-essential trips to Venezuela in view of the situation arising in the South American country Venezuela.

It also urged Indians present in Venezuela to exercise utmost caution, stay in touch with the Indian Embassy in Caracas and share emergency helpline numbers for assistance.

“In view of the recent developments in Venezuela, Indian nationals are advised to avoid all non-essential travel to Venezuela,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

“All Indians present in Venezuela for any reason are advised to exercise utmost caution, limit their movements and remain in touch with the Embassy of India in Caracas through their email ID: cons.caracas@mea.gov.in or emergency phone number +58-412-9584288 (also for WhatsApp calls),” it said.

The advisory was issued after Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured in Caracas and flown out of the country in a joint operation involving intelligence agencies and US law enforcement agencies, raising tensions and uncertainty.

Earlier, Donald Trump had said that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, who were captured in Caracas during a US military operation, have been indicted and will stand trial in the Southern District of New York on charges of alleged “drug trafficking and narco-terrorism conspiracies”.
