According to the Henley Passport Index 2025 released in October 2025, the global ranking of Indian Passport has fallen to 85th place. Based on this ranking, Indian citizens can now avail Visa-Free or Visa-on-Arrival facility in 57 countries. Last year i.e. in 2024, India was at 80th position and access was available to 62 countries. This means that this time there has been a decline of 5 places in the passport power of India.
The ranking is based on visa policies, diplomatic relations and border security regulations around the world. Henley Index reveals every year which country’s passport is the strongest in the world and how many countries its citizens can travel to without a visa.
World’s Top Passports 2025
Singapore has got the title of the strongest passport in 2025, whose citizens can travel visa-free to 193 countries. At second place is South Korea (190) and at third place is Japan (189).
America’s ranking was also in the news this year as it dropped out of the top-10 and reached 12th position for the first time in history.
57 countries with Visa-Free or Visa-on-Arrival
This facility available on Indian passport is available in most Asian, African, Gulf and Caribbean countries. Popular countries include Bhutan, Nepal, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Cambodia, Kenya, Mauritius, Seychelles, Fiji, Qatar and Oman.
India’s position compared to neighboring countries
Compared to India, the rankings of Bhutan (92), Sri Lanka (98), Bangladesh (100), Nepal (101) and Pakistan (103) are even weaker. That means India still maintains a relatively strong position in South Asia.
the way forward
Experts believe that if India makes more bilateral visa agreements in the coming time, then the ranking of Indian Passport can improve again.
