India on Thursday issued a response in view of the newly signed “strategic defense agreement” between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, stating that it would closely study the implications of the agreement for national security and regional and global stability of India.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said that New Delhi accepts the formalization of the “long -term system” between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, as well as said that it would closely examine its possible consequences.
Jaiswal also emphasized that India’s national security is paramount in view of this development.
The statement of the Ministry of External Affairs said, “We have seen the report of a signing of a strategic mutual defense agreement between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. The government was aware that the agreement, which formally gives a long-term system between the two countries, was under consideration. We were under our national security as well as regional and global stability effects. Government will study the effects of this agreement on regional and global stability. This comment of the Ministry of External Affairs came a few hours after Saudi Arabia and Pakistan signed the “Strategic Emergency Defense Agreement”, promising that any invasion against any country would be considered an attack on both countries.
The agreement was signed during Riyadh’s state visit by Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday at the invitation of Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
According to a joint statement that continued after the visit, “By advancing the historic partnership between the Saudi Arabia Empire and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for almost eight decades, and the bondage of brotherhood and Islamic solidarity, as well as the strategic interests and close defense cooperation between shared strategic interests and the two countries, signed a strategic resolution and the Pakistan Prime Minister signed a strategic resolution.”
The joint statement further states, “This agreement, which shows the shared commitment of the two countries to increase its security and establish security and peace in the world, aims to develop aspects of defense cooperation between the two countries and strengthen joint resistance against any invasion.
