Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended Navy Day greetings and said the maritime force is synonymous with extraordinary courage and determination. Prime Minister Modi recalled his time spent on board India’s indigenously built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant during Diwali last year.

PM Modi posted on Twitter “Happy Navy Day to all Indian Navy personnel. Our Navy is synonymous with extraordinary courage and determination. They protect our coasts and maintain our maritime interests. In recent years, our Navy has focused on self-reliance and modernization. This has further strengthened our security posture.”

Recalling spending Diwali 2025 on board the aircraft carrier, PM Modi wrote, “I can never forget this year’s Diwali, which I spent with the naval personnel on board INS Vikrant. Best wishes to the Indian Navy in their further endeavours,” he posted a video of himself on the ship.

Earlier in October, in Panaji, Goa, Prime Minister Modi had celebrated Diwali aboard INS Vikrant with naval personnel. Describing the armed forces as “his family”, he said that for the last 11 years he has been carrying on his annual tradition of celebrating Diwali with the country’s armed forces. PM Modi had said, “Celebrating Diwali with the family has become my habit and that is why I come every year to celebrate Diwali with my family.”

Meanwhile, the Navy on Wednesday showcased its operational capability and maritime capabilities through a spectacular ‘Operational Display’ off the Shangumugham beach, Thiruvananthapuram. The mega event brought to life the Navy’s formidable combat capabilities, technical excellence and operational readiness, while also reflecting the country’s growing maritime strength and self-reliance.

President Draupadi Murmu was welcomed by Naval Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi did it. On arrival, the chief guest was given a ceremonial guard of honor by 150 soldiers. Various dignitaries including Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan attended the event. Also, other senior officials of the Central and State Government, military dignitaries and local people also witnessed the event.

India celebrates 4 December every year as Navy Day to acknowledge the role of the Indian Navy and commemorate its achievements in ‘Operation Trident’ during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. ,
