Delhi Traffic Police on Monday said that the Noida Link Road from Delhi’s Chilla Border has been blocked in view of the ongoing protest by the workers of Hosiery Complex located in Phase 2 of Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
The protests turned violent during clashes with police, leading to traffic jams in the area. The traffic police had advised people to use alternative routes.
“Traffic in Noida is severely affected due to the ongoing agitation by workers of private factories. They have completely blocked the Noida Link Road coming from Chilla Border (Delhi). Traffic from Chilla Border towards Noida has been severely impacted,” Delhi Traffic Police posted on Twitter.
It further said, “The public is advised to plan their journey accordingly and use DND to reach Noida. Vehicles going to Noida can use DND from Sarai Kale Khan or alternatively enter Noida using NH 24 – Kondli Bridge – Noida Border.”
Workers of Hosiery Complex located in Phase 2 of Noida, Uttar Pradesh are protesting demanding increased wages. The protests turned violent today, with protesters reportedly vandalizing vehicles and property and throwing stones during clashes with police.
A large number of employees of a company had gathered to protest demanding salary increase. A car was also set on fire during this demonstration.
A large number of police forces were deployed at the protest site to bring the situation under control.
On Sunday, Noida District Magistrate Medha Rupam held a meeting with the state Principal Secretary (Labour) and Labor Commissioner to discuss protecting the interests of workers, double payment for overtime, bonuses and workplace safety.
“An important meeting was held at Noida Authority to maintain industrial peace, in which Principal Secretary (Labour) and Labor Commissioner of Uttar Pradesh participated through virtual medium and discussed various topics including protecting the interests of workers, double payment for overtime, bonus, weekly leave and workplace safety,” the DM wrote on Twitter.
