Swayambhu religious leader Chaitanyanand Saraswati, accused of sexually abusing 17 girl students in a private institute in the capital Delhi, was arrested from Agra in Uttar Pradesh in the early hours of Sunday. Delhi Police gave this information.
Officials said that a team of Delhi Police found Saraswati (62) in Agra on the basis of secret information. He was staying in a hotel in Agra.
A senior police official said, “Several teams were formed to catch Saraswati. Based on the information, we located it at a hotel in Tajganj area of Agra and caught him from there at around 3:30 am on Sunday.” He said that after the FIR was registered, he escaped from Delhi on August 4.
Earlier, the police had banned a total transaction of eight crore rupees deposited in several bank accounts associated with Saraswati.
According to the FIR lodged against Swayambhu religious leader, he used to force the students to come to her room late at night and send them objectionable messages. He is also accused of monitoring the activities of the girl students through his phone.
An official said that during the investigation, it was also revealed that the accused allegedly used to transact from bank account with different names and identities and after registering the FIR, he had withdrawn more than Rs 50 lakh from those accounts.
The police have also received some fake visiting cards from him, shown to be associated with the United Nations and ‘BRICS’.
‘BRICS’ is an organization of countries with five emerging economies including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
