Tata Sierra, the new offering from Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV), has achieved a historic milestone even before its launch. In a certified run at the NATRAX track in Indore, the Sierra recorded a record fuel efficiency of 29.9 kmpl in 12 hours, after which it was included in the India Book of Records.
This run was done continuously from 7 am to 7 pm on 30 November 2025. The Pixel Motion team achieved this feat under extremely controlled, safe and defined circumstances. Barring the driver swap, the train ran continuously for 12 hours. The authentication of the records was completed on the same day.
Hyperion engine becomes the hero of the record
At the heart of this extraordinary achievement is Tata’s new 1.5L Hyperion petrol engine, developed with a balance of high efficiency, superior performance and refinement.
Key Features of Hyperion Engine:
Advanced Combustion System
Torque-Rich Performance Band
Friction-Optimized Architecture
Stable fuel delivery and consistent performance over long periods of time
These technical characteristics ensured that the Sierra continued to deliver consistent efficiency and affordability throughout testing. This is a clear indication of the engineering prowess of Tata’s new generation petrol powertrain.
Official statement from Tata Motors
Commenting on the achievement, Mohan Savarkar, Chief Product Officer, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said—
“Setting a national efficiency record at such an early stage of Sierra’s journey is a proud moment for us. The Hyperion engine platform was developed to push the boundaries of gasoline powertrains, and this achievement validates that effort. It further strengthens Sierra’s value proposition and reflects our promise to bring future-ready technology.”
Showed its strength in speed test also: Top speed of 222 km/h recorded
In another parallel test, Tata Sierra also achieved a top speed of 222 km/h on NATRAX.
This shows that the Hyperion engine is class leading not only in mileage but also in high-performance capability.
