Apart from 10 kg of wheat and rice, 5 kg of pulses and oil will be distributed to every family.
Nashik (Maharashtra), July 24 (IANS)| Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal said here on Saturday that the Maharashtra government will provide free food grains and kerosene to the people in the flood-affected areas of the state. Special assistance will be given to all those who have lost everything and nearly 89,000 people have been rendered homeless in the ravaged areas of Raigad, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Sangli, Kolhapur and Satara, which have been worst hit by the torrential rains since Thursday. .
The minister said that the government would provide 10 kg wheat, 10 kg rice, five kg pulses and five liters of kerosene to each family as per the government policy of March 2019. Kerosene will help people to cook their food as many areas are still submerged and without electricity and other fuel supplies have been affected due to floods for the last three days. Bhujbal said that in areas where major government-run Shiv Bhojan Thali centers have been submerged or washed away, officials will move ready-to-eat food from other nearby places.
The minister said, “We have decided to double the supply of Shiv Bhojan Thali in six districts to help the people as houses are facing shortage due to dirt and mud, flooding of roads and other living problems. ” For those wanting Shiv Bhojan Thali packets but are hampered due to lack of power supply, mobile and internet connectivity, he said people will be allowed to use the Tehsildar’s machinery to meet their needs till normalcy returns .
