Fearing snatching of the prime minister’s chair as the countdown to the no-confidence motion vote begins, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday called on his supporters to take to the streets against a “foreign conspiracy”. At the same time, he has assured his supporters that “A captain always has a plan. This time I have more than one plan. We will win tomorrow. I will defeat him in the National Assembly.”
Imran also suggested that he could not accept a vote to oust him. “How can I accept the result when the whole process is in disrepute?” he said. Talking to a select group of foreign journalists in his office, Khan said, “Democracy operates on moral rights. What moral right is left after this complicity?” has open intervention.
Opposition worried about security of MPs
Parliament will vote on a no-confidence motion against Imran Khan on Sunday, but before that the opposition parties are concerned about the security of the MPs. In view of this, Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif has called on the Islamabad Capital Territory Administration to ensure the security of every member of the National Assembly. He said that according to Imran Khan’s statement, when the vote on the no-confidence motion will be held in Parliament on Sunday, at that time 100,000 of his supporters will be outside the Parliament House. In this regard, Shahbaz has written a letter to the Chief Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad seeking protection.
Pakistan’s troubled Prime Minister Imran Khan has said the establishment had given him three options after the opposition moved a no-confidence motion against him in Parliament. Resignation, vote of no confidence or election. However, he did not clarify which side he was referring to from the establishment. Asked whether the opposition, the ruling party or any other party had given the option of premature elections or resignation, Imran said that three options were put before him. He further said that we have told the election as the best option, because I cannot even think of resigning.
early election good idea
Referring to several members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) joining the opposition camp ahead of the polls, Imran said, “Even if the no-confidence motion is dropped, we cannot run the government with such people (rebels).” Therefore, it would be better for Pakistan to hold fresh elections. Asked if he was ready for early elections, Imran said, “If we win the no-confidence motion, it would be a good idea to hold early elections.”
Opposition parties termed as stigma
The Pakistan Prime Minister termed opposition parties like Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) as a blot on the country. He said that it is because of his policies of the past that a foreign power is openly calling for change of power in Pakistan. The Imran government has lost majority as two constituents of the ruling coalition in Pakistan moved to the opposition camp.
