Electricity consumers in Uttar Pradesh may soon face a big shock from inflation. Amidst the new preparations going on in the state regarding electricity tariff, about 2.5 lakh consumers of Noida and Greater Noida are feared that the 10 percent electricity rebate they have been getting for the last four years will be reduced or completely eliminated. If this decision is implemented, consumers will see a direct increase in their electricity bills.
According to the information, this discount was being given to urban consumers for a long time, but now the discussion has intensified regarding changes in electricity distribution system and tariff structure. The process of finalizing the new tariff is going on at the level of the Electricity Department and the Regulatory Commission, which is likely to be released soon.
If this 10 percent discount ends, there will be additional financial burden on consumers of Noida and Greater Noida every month. Amidst the already rising electricity rates, fixed charges and other charges, this change may further hit the common public’s wallet.
Along with this, a new electricity tariff for the entire Uttar Pradesh is also expected to be announced soon. It is believed that in this new tariff, the rates for domestic, commercial and industrial consumers can be revised. However, no official announcement has been made in this regard yet.
Consumer organizations say that if this exemption ends, it will have the biggest impact on the middle class and small traders. At the same time, some experts in the energy sector believe that this step can be taken to reduce the losses of power distribution companies and make the system financially strong.
On the other hand, the news of this possible change has increased concern among consumers. People say that in the current inflationary period, any increase in electricity bill will have a direct impact on their household budget.
At present, the final decision on this entire matter will be clear only after the order of Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission. Till then, consumers are keeping an eye on the new tariffs and possible changes.
