Guwahati, April 9 (IANS). Voting is going on in 126 assembly constituencies in Assam and the election atmosphere is quite exciting. The contest is mainly between the BJP-led NDA and the Congress-led opposition alliance. Assam Chief Minister and BJP candidate from Jalukbari Himanta Biswa Sarma along with wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma offered prayers at the revered Maa Kamakhya temple in Guwahati ahead of voting on Thursday. At the same time, candidates of different parties reached their polling stations and voted and gave their responses.
Minister Piyush Hazarika, who came to vote in Ahatguri, said, “I want to request the public once again that we have not made any compromise with the development of Assam. We have only one thing in our mind and heart and that is to take Assam forward.”
Piyush Hazarika’s wife Amy Barua said, “It is good to see that people are coming everywhere to vote since morning. During this election campaign, I saw that people are very happy. People are in favor of development. Many women are seen voting in Assam.”
At the same time, NDA alliance candidate Atul Bora cast his vote in traditional attire at Bokakhat while independent former MLA Jiten Gogoi also voted.
Rajdeep Goala, BJP candidate from Udharbond Assembly constituency, said, “I would like to extend my best wishes to all the voters participating in this year’s elections. I humbly request everyone to exercise their democratic rights. I am hopeful that Assam will move forward on the path of development this year. The public, the citizens, the voters, all will stand with the Bharatiya Janata Party for this development movement.”
After casting his vote in Nagaon, Congress MP Mohammad Rakibul Hussain said, “I have come here to cast my vote and exercise my democratic rights. I will not say anything against the democratic process, so I have voted with my entire family.”
AGP candidate from Lakhimpur, Basant Das, said after voting, “I am Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has done a good job, has worked for development. That’s why our government will be formed again.”
Atul Bora, NDA candidate from Bokakhat assembly constituency, said, “Today is a memorable day. We were working hard for this day for a long time. My polling booth is in front of my house. A lot of women and youth have come here to vote, it feels good to see all of them. This is a constitutional right, a democratic right.”
Uttam Prasad, NDA candidate from Dhubri Assembly constituency, said, “Come out of your homes and cast your vote. We have received immense support from the public during the election campaign. We thank the public for their support. If everything goes well, the BJP is winning here.”
Meanwhile, BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary said, “I have voted. NDA’s 15 seats in the BTC region are very good in the entire election.”
Dr Milan Das, BJP candidate from Hailakandi assembly constituency, said, “I have voted in my center and I am going to other centers also. All the voters at all the centers are voting in a disciplined manner. I feel the pace of voting should be a little faster.”
