Guwahati, June 18 (IANS). Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said there has been significant growth in the state’s live entertainment sector and Assam is now emerging as one of the leading concert destinations in India.
Highlighting the progress of the state’s concert and live events industry, the Chief Minister said that till a few years ago Assam did not feature in the calendar of big concert events, but now it has become the preferred destination for big music and entertainment events.
“Till a few years ago, Assam was not even a part of most concert calendars, but now look at its progress,” the Chief Minister wrote on social media platform X.
According to data shared by Himanta Biswa Sarma, 55 ticket-based live shows were organized in Assam in the year 2025. This reflects major growth in the state’s entertainment and events sector.
He said that during this period, the number of shows registered an increase of 222 percent, while the number of viewers increased by 188 percent.
The Chief Minister described this achievement as a symbol of the growing popularity of Assam among the organisers, artistes and spectators. Sharing an infographic, he said, ‘Assam is really performing brilliantly.’
According to data released by the Chief Minister’s Office, this increase in live events has been possible due to better infrastructure, stronger connectivity and increasing interest of national and international artists to perform in the state.
Industry experts believe that the expansion of the concert industry will also benefit tourism, hotel business, transportation and local businesses. Due to big musical programs, there has been an increase in the arrival of visitors from different parts of the country, especially young audiences, to the state.
Many big cultural and entertainment events have been organized in Assam over the years. This is being considered as part of the state government’s initiative to establish Assam as a hub of tourism, culture and investment in the North-Eastern region.
The latest data shared by the Chief Minister shows that the image of Assam in the entertainment sector of the country is changing rapidly and the state is emerging as a major hub of live music and cultural events.
