These include one Police Sub-Inspector (PSI), one Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and four constables. All of them are accused of negligence in duty.
According to police officials, all the suspended policemen will remain suspended until the investigation is completed. This matter came to light when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Bengaluru tour.
On May 10, suspicious material was recovered about 20 feet away from a kutcha road adjacent to the forest area near Kanakpura Road. Visible material like two gelatin sticks, six incense sticks, matchstick, cellophane tape, battery pack, wire and circuit board were found from the spot.
Prime Minister Modi had reached Bengaluru that day to attend the completion of 45 years of the ‘Art of Living’ organization and the 70th birthday celebrations of its founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. Explosive material was found near the Prime Minister’s venue about one and a half hours before his arrival, after which security agencies were alerted.
In this case, Kaggalipura police has registered an FIR under Section 4 of the Explosive Substances Act and Section 9B of the Explosives Act. Under these sections, action is taken in cases like possessing explosives with the intention of causing harm to life or property or attempting to cause explosion.
However, till now no one has been arrested in this case nor has the source of the explosive material been known. A team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) also reached Bengaluru from Delhi to help in the investigation.
