Patna, April 21 (IANS). Bihar State Women’s Commission has issued a notice to Purnia MP Rajesh Ranjan (Pappu Yadav). This notice has been issued on a viral video of his, in which he is shown making objectionable remarks against women.
This notice has been issued by the office of Commission Chairperson Apsara, who took suo motu cognizance of the matter.
The Commission said that the alleged statements related to the MP are objectionable, indecent and against the dignity of women.
According to the notice, the viral video purportedly shows Pappu Yadav making controversial remarks regarding women’s participation in politics, linking their advancement to inappropriate ways.
The Commission said that such statements hurt the self-respect and social prestige of women working in public life.
The notice said, “In a video circulated through social media, you have made a disgusting statement regarding women working in the political field. It indicates that women advance in politics in unfair ways, which deeply hurts their dignity and social standing.
Taking the matter seriously, the Commission has sought a reply from the MP within three days.
It has also been warned that if a satisfactory reply is not received, action may be recommended to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, which also includes the possibility of canceling his membership.
The Commission said that such statements are not acceptable and they undermine the dignity and contribution of women in politics.
Meanwhile, Pappu Yadav reacted strongly to the notice of Bihar State Women Commission and said that his statement has been misrepresented and taken out of context.
She said her comments were not against women, but to highlight the alleged exploitation of women in politics.
Pappu Yadav said that he has always raised his voice against crimes against women and also raised questions on the role of the Commission.
He also said that he had raised this issue in the House and cited government figures, media reports and statements of leaders.
Pappu Yadav alleged that his statement has been misrepresented to create controversy.
Referring to several cases related to women in Bihar, he raised questions on the action of the Commission and asked why equal seriousness is not shown in other cases.
He said that he is ready to face any investigation and stands by his statement. He also said that if his statement has hurt anyone’s sentiments then he is sorry.
