Raipur/Bilaspur, December 21 (IANS). Chhattisgarh’s Additional Advocate General Ranveer Singh Marhas has resigned from his post. The resignation of the senior law officer has intensified speculation that the state government is moving towards comprehensive reforms in the Advocate General’s office.
Marhas was working in the office of Advocate General in Bilaspur Bench of Chhattisgarh High Court.
Following his resignation, significant changes are expected in the office of the Advocate General. Let us tell you that the Advocate General Office handles the legal representation of the state government in the Chhattisgarh High Court.
Last month, Advocate General Prafulla Bharat had also resigned from his post, which surprised many lawyers associated with the High Court.
Now, almost a month after the resignation of the Advocate General, Additional Advocate General Ranveer Singh Marhas has also submitted his resignation to the Secretary of the Law and Legislation Department.
Interestingly, both Advocate General Prafulla Bharat and Additional Advocate General Ranveer Singh Marhas did not give any reason for their resignation. However, the contents of both their resignation letters are said to be almost identical, indicating that these decisions may be more related to institutional changes rather than personal reasons.
Ranveer Singh Marhas wrote in the letter that it was an honor for him to serve as Additional Advocate General for the last two years.
During this time he got the opportunity to contribute to the legal matters of the state and represent the government in various courts. Expressing his gratitude for the trust and cooperation shown by the government, he said that he performed his responsibilities with full dedication and now is the right time to step down from the post.
After the resignation of Prafulla Bharat, the state government appointed Vivek Sharma as Advocate General of Chhattisgarh on November 21, 2025.
Vivek Sharma is the youngest Advocate General in the history of Chhattisgarh. He has previously served as Additional Advocate General and has wide experience of practicing law in Chhattisgarh High Court.
