Patna, 18 November (IANS). A few days after the crushing defeat of the Grand Alliance’s main party Congress in the Bihar Assembly elections, the party has started action against leaders involved in anti-party activities during the election campaign.
Bihar Congress has issued show cause notices to 43 party leaders for activities like deviating from the party line, making anti-party statements and adversely affecting the party’s prospects.
This notice was issued by the disciplinary committee of Bihar Congress and the people whose names are included in it include former ministers, MLAs and former officials.
All have been asked to file their reply within three days, failing which strict action will be taken against them, including expulsion from the party for up to six years.
It is believed that the leaders to whom notices have been issued had made such statements from public forums during the elections which were harmful to the party and its reputation and also affected the election results.
According to a statement from the Congress Disciplinary Committee, all 43 leaders have been asked to give written explanations before the committee by November 21.
State disciplinary committee chairman Kapil Dev Prasad said, “If his explanation is not received within the stipulated time limit, the committee will be forced to take action, including expulsion from the primary membership of the party for six years.”
Those to whom the notice has been issued include former minister Afaq Alam, former spokesperson Anand Madhav, former MLA Chhatrapati Yadav, former minister Veena Shahi, former Legislative Councilor Ajay Kumar Singh, former MLA Gajanand Shahi alias Munna Shahi, Sudhir Kumar alias Bunty Chaudhary, Banka District Congress Committee President Kanchana Kumari, Saran District President Bachchu Kumar Biru and former Youth Congress President Raj Kumar Rajan.
The committee said that the discipline and unity of the party is a top priority and anyone trying to harm it or its principles will be dealt with seriously.
