Amid the ongoing controversy over Congress’ claim that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife has three passports, Assam Police conducted searches at the Delhi residence of Congress leader Pawan Kheda. The search was conducted following an FIR lodged by Sarma’s wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma on Monday.
Earlier, while addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Monday, Chief Minister Sharma promised to take the strictest action against Pawan Kheda.
He said, “I will take the strictest action against Congress leader Pawan Kheda, just wait for a few days. We will win at least 100 seats in the elections.”
Chief Minister Sharma refuted the allegations made by the Congress, claiming that property documents linking his family to the Dubai apartments were stolen from document sharing platform Scribd.
He insisted that the Congress has been wiped out in the state, and also reiterated allegations of Pakistani links in the ongoing passport row between Congress leaders Gaurav Gogoi and Pawan Khera over claims related to his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma.
Sarma said, “Congress’ game is over in Assam. Just look at yesterday’s power market prices. After this allegation, NDA’s seats increased to 99. NDA had 94 seats in the morning, by night it became 99. This is just a sign, more people will come to my meeting today. Congress had also implicated VP Singh’s son in the same way.”
Stepping up his attack, the Chief Minister questioned Congress leaders Gaurav Gogoi and Pawan Kheda about their alleged foreign links.
He said, “Why did you take help from a Pakistani social media group? Whatever is said about us, we will go to court, everything, but my allegation is why is Pakistan helping Gaurav Gogoi?”
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma on Monday said she has filed an FIR against the allegations made by the Congress and accused the opposition party of acting out of desperation and “hatching a plan”. In an interview to ANI, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma said that the allegations “cannot be taken lightly” and “let justice prevail”.
These allegations were made by Congress Media Department Chairman Pawan Kheda in a press conference on Sunday. Assembly elections in Assam are scheduled to be held on April 9, with campaigning ending this evening and counting of votes taking place on May 4.
