Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has made a special appeal to Wipro’s founder Azim Premji. Siddaramaiah has requested this businessman to allow the movement of limited vehicles to the company premises in Bangalore as part of efforts to reduce traffic on Outer Ring Road.
Appeal for the betterment of Bengaluru
In a letter written on September 19, Siddaramaiah said, “Preliminary assessment of traffic and urban mobility experts indicates that such measures indicate that such measures can reduce the congestion of about 30 percent in the area around the ORR, especially during the busiest office time, especially during the busiest office time.”
Drawing attention to the impact of traffic of heavy vehicles, Siddaramaiah said that ‘the heavy traffic dynamics and the quality of urban life negatively impact during the busiest time.’ Describing Wipro’s cooperation as important, Siddaramaiah said that the initiative will play an important role in reducing the traffic congestion, improving the experience of the passengers and creating a skilled and lustable Bengaluru. ‘
Siddaramaiah appealed to Azeem Premji, requesting the company to agree with government officials as soon as possible.
Pits and jam problems on the roads
The proposal came after repeated concerns raised by passengers and civil groups over the problem of severe traffic jams on the city’s IT center, Outer Ring Road, the city. Recently, the co-founder of Logistics Technology firm Blackbalk announced that he would vacate his office in Bellandur due to poor road conditions.
Blackbuck CEO Rajesh Yawaji wrote on social media that the Outer Ring Road is known for its’ pits and dusty roads’, and there is no desire to fix them. ‘ He further said that he does not expect to improve the situation for at least five years.
This announcement led to extensive debate and criticism by the Government of Karnataka on how to deal with civil issues. Union Minister and former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy accused the administration of disability and corruption and called Bengaluru a ‘city of pits’. He claimed that the trust of the industry is decreasing and they are turning to the neighboring states. He alleged that the government has insulted the pride of the Kannada people by neglecting development.
Pressure on Siddaramaiah government
Following this comment, the state government has increased pressure on the city’s busiest roads to overcome the concerns related to traffic problems. Defending his records, Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivkumar had said that he had given the last deadline till November to fill the pit.
He also announced Rs 1,100 crore for repair and construction of roads across the city. He said, “Our aim is clean Bengaluru and smooth traffic, so GBA will ensure that the pits are finished as soon as possible.”
