Gandhinagar, April 26 (IANS). Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi on Sunday attacked the Congress and its MLA Imran Khedawala over the statements made during voting in the local body elections. He accused the opposition of trying to influence voters and giving a communal color to the electoral process.
Sanghvi described the elections as the ‘biggest festival of democracy’ and appealed to the citizens to come out in large numbers and cast their votes.
He said that all citizens of the state should try to ensure maximum voting in this biggest festival of democracy, and also said that massive arrangements have been made to conduct the voting process smoothly.
His comment came in response to Khedawala’s appeal in which he had asked voters to vote against the government’s decisions. There was also mention of ‘bulldozer’ action in his appeal.
Khedawala said in a video that during the 30 years of BJP rule, issues like ‘bulldozer politics’ and ‘Disturbed Areas Act’ have dominated the discussions. Your vote is very important to answer this. Go to the polling booth and vote for our candidates.
Sanghvi alleged that such statements are part of a larger and ongoing effort. He said that whether it is Imran Bhai or other parties, this conspiracy has not come to light today. For the last several days, continuous efforts are being made to create such a situation through different means. He accused opposition leaders of trying to twist the elections on religious lines.
He said that he has directly tried to take the elections in a religious direction. Everyone in Gujarat has witnessed these scenes, and appealed to voters to remain alert and ensure that ‘not even a single vote goes waste.’
Let us tell you that voting took place across Gujarat on Sunday from 7 am to 6 pm amidst tight security.
