Gandhinagar, March 11 (IANS). The Gujarat government has formed a high-level committee to secure the supply of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). This announcement was made by spokesperson Minister Jitu Vaghani on Wednesday.
This committee, headed by Chief Secretary MK Das, will monitor the availability of LNG and coordinate with central authorities to ensure that the gas supply continues to reach homes without any interruption.
Vaghani said a panel under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will continuously review the situation to ensure adequate supply is maintained.
He assured that there will be no impact on domestic LPG cylinders. He further said that the government has adequate stock of LPG, CNG, petrol and diesel. I appeal to people not to be influenced by rumours.
Vaghani said industries are expected to get about 80 percent of their normal gas supply. He said the government’s aim is to avoid price increases and protect consumers from any kind of inconvenience.
The minister also warned against black marketing and said strict action would be taken against those involved in illegal hoarding. He said that if needed, the central and state governments will provide gas and fuel even at higher prices.
State Energy and Petrochemicals Minister Hrishikesh Patel said that due to the ongoing conflicts in Iran, Israel and other areas, gas ships (cargo) coming from important routes have stopped for some time, due to which there are problems in supply.
He said that other arrangements have been made to maintain the supply.
India’s energy markets have seen volatility, especially near the Strait of Hormuz, a key global chokepoint.
Both state and central officials have stressed that wherever possible, piped natural gas (PNG), CNG and LPG for domestic use are being given priority over industrial use.
The Gujarat Committee will ensure that as alternative cargo and other sources of energy become available, their supply to households remains stable.
