Chandigarh, June 12 (IANS). Haryana Industries Minister Rao Narbir Singh on Friday said much relief is expected from waterlogging in Gurugram during monsoon as corrective measures have been taken at all the 158 flood-prone spots identified last year.

Minister Rao Narbir Singh, while addressing the people after laying the foundation stone of development projects worth Rs 16 crore in Maidawas and Dhumaspur villages under Gurugram Municipal Corporation, said that the government is committed to accelerate the development works.

He said that there is no dearth of funds for works of public interest.

“People just need to bring proposals as per the set rules and standards and the government will leave no stone unturned to solve their problems and complete development works,” he said.

Singh said that the sole objective of the government is to ensure that the benefits of development schemes reach the last person of the society.

Describing Gurugram as a rapidly developing city, Singh said that continuous efforts are being made to further strengthen its infrastructure.

Referring to the recurring problem of waterlogging during monsoon, he said 158 sensitive spots were identified across the city last year.

He said that after this, special campaigns were conducted at all these places by the concerned departments and necessary corrective measures were implemented.

He said drainage systems have been strengthened and drains have been cleaned and other necessary works have been done to improve the city’s preparedness for the rainy season. As a result, residents are expected to get considerable relief from waterlogging this year.

The Minister said that development should not be seen only from the perspective of roads, buildings and other infrastructure projects, environment protection is also equally important.

Monsoon season is going to start in the coming days and in such a situation he urged every citizen to be a part of the plantation campaigns.

Emphasizing the importance of increasing greenery, Singh said that about 14 trees are needed to absorb the carbon dioxide exhaled by an average person every day. He appealed to the people to pledge to plant and take care of as many trees as possible in their homes, farms, institutions and public places.
