New Delhi, May 25 (IANS). Mahila Congress President Alka Lamba has given a sharp reaction to her being held guilty in the case related to the demonstration at Jantar Mantar demanding women’s safety and women’s reservation. Alka Lamba, while talking to journalists, said that she was already anticipating this decision. She considers her movement as a peaceful demonstration carried out under democratic rights.

Alka Lamba said that this matter is of July 2024, when the monsoon session of Parliament was going on. During that time, as the National President of Mahila Congress, she was protesting at Jantar Mantar along with her fellow women. The aim of the demonstration was to demand implementation of reservation for women and to take strict steps regarding the safety of women in the country.

He alleged that during the protest the police came under pressure and registered an FIR against him and later also filed a charge sheet. Lamba said that she has been continuously appearing in the court from 2024 to 2026 and now she has been declared guilty.

She said, “My only crime was that I raised my voice for women’s safety and their rights. If talking about women’s rights is a crime, then I will continue this fight further.”

The Congress leader also claimed that only he was made an accused in the entire case, while a large number of women participated in the protest. He said that the police allege that they attacked the policemen and prevented them from performing their duty, while the protest was completely peaceful. According to him, the protesters were sitting without any weapons, holding copies of the Constitution in their hands and putting forth their demands in a democratic manner.

Alka Lamba said that she is not afraid of any punishment. He said that women’s safety is a serious issue in the country and only those who raise their voice on it are being targeted.

She alleged that there is an atmosphere of concern across the country regarding increasing crimes against women, but when people demand justice and security, they are the ones blamed. She made it clear that she will continue her fight for women’s rights and safety.
